Owl Prowl

Join the staff in a nighttime adventure and explore the world of owls – the mysterious night hunters. After a brief indoor session on Pennsylvania’s owls and their adaptions, visitors will venture outside to listen for owls. This is a free program that is suitable for ages six and older. Dress appropriately and bring flashlights. The program will meet at the Deep Creek Stone Pavilion in Green Lane Park. Spaces are limited and preregistration is required. Kid Friendly Hike w/ Marv Schwartz

Valley Green Inn Philadelphia, PA, United States

Meet at Valley Green Inn. This hike takes participants along Forbidden Drive to visit the Livezey Dam and Gorgas Creek cave. After crossing the Mt. Airy Bridge, we will take the hillside trail upstream past interesting rock formations and then traverse Fingerspan Bridge. We will stop to enjoy our snacks and drinks on the stone steps hike above the Wissahickon Creek and continue on to Devil’s Pool and Pee Wee Rock on return to the Inn. Level: moderate on some rocky trails.

Lost in the woods! Need shelter for the night! What can you do? This program will teach you how to construct a shelter out of natural materials. Each participant will help construct a real debris hut deep in the forest of Silver Lake Nature Preserve. Families & individuals welcome!

Evans-Mumbower Mill Open House & Trail Walk

Wissahickon Watershed Association 12 Morris Rd, Ambler, PA, United States

Tours of Evans-Mumbower Mill are typically given from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month in the spring, summer and fall. Watch an introductory DVD program about the history of milling on the Wissahickon Creek; a costumed guide will take you for a fascinating tour to see the mill in operation.  After the tour you can browse in the museum and see artifacts from the Mill’s archaeological dig. After touring the Mill, take a walk along the former millrace that fed the mill, to locate the remnants of the dam in the Upper Wissahickon. The walk will begin at 2:00 pm and last approximately an hour. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots!
